MADISON, Wis. — Something positive is stemming from the postgame fumble that left the Duke’s Mayo Bowl trophy in pieces.
Duke’s has partnered with Homefield Apparel to create a shirt celebrating the infamous broken trophy. Proceeds from shirt sales will help the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
Shirts will be available until Jan. 15. Every dollar raised will provide 7 pounds of food for the Charlotte community.
Wisconsin beat Wake Forest 42-28 during Wednesday’s game. While celebrating the win, Badger quarterback Graham Mertz dropped the football-shaped piece of Lenox crystal on the locker room floor.
“Yeah, I dropped it,” Mertz said. “That’s on me. It happened.”
Mertz “fixed” the trophy by taping a bottle of Duke’s mayonnaise to the base. This image is what is shown on the front of the benefit t-shirt.
