EAST SIDE — Starting Saturday, a Southeast Side church will restart its weekly food distributions for families in need.
Free food boxes are available 10 a.m.–noon Saturdays at Christian Fellowship Flock Church, 10724 S. Ewing Ave. Produce, chicken and dairy products are among the items included in each food box.
The giveaways are first come, first served, with no registration required. The church is able to serve more than 1,000 families every week, outreach coordinator Orlando DeLeon said.
The drive-thru, contactless giveaways will run through March or April depending on supply, office and program manager Emily Cabrales said.
Christian Fellowship Flock also held food distributions September–November before the program was temporarily paused, Cabrales said.
The distributions are organized in partnership with Grace and Peace Church, 1856 N. Leclaire Ave. in Austin, using food sourced from Piazza Produce in Indianapolis and Get Fresh Produce in suburban Buffalo Grove. Refrigerated storage trailers are supplied by Fleet Equipment Center in suburban Bolingbrook.
