Food Insecurity Rates Soaring Amid The Pandemic As More Families Than Ever Continue To Struggle
(Springfield, IL) — The pandemic continues to affect the lives of Illinois families as now more than a million people across the state are reportedly struggling with hunger. A 2018 report from Feeding America estimated that Sangamon County was facing a food insecurity rate of eleven-point-four percent. That number is expected to be more than 15 percent for 2020 due to the pandemic. Meanwhile, local food pantries continue to struggle and are asking now more than ever for donations from the community.
