Several local organizations along with a Texas Church compiled resources to feed the Camden community.
Impact Camden organized a community food give away with help from the New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Houston, The Mercy Group, the Dr. W.D. Harris Family and Broad Minds LLC were able to give out an 18-wheeler full of chicken in Carnes Park last Friday. There were no income guidelines and the food was available to everyone that came out.
People from sever different organizations formed an assembly line to put the bags together including representatives from Delta Sigma Theta, Alpha Phi Alpha, Unity in the Community, Queen City Motors LLC, NAACP, African American Historical Commission of Camden, No Limit Riders Motorcycle Club and the Arkansas Support Network.
Impact Camden Founder Julie Brown spoke to the Camden News during the event.
“We are just thankful to everyone for coming out to participate in this giveaway,” Brown said. “We thank Mayor Lott and the city of Camden for making it possible for us to put this event together. We are glad that New Mt. Calvary and the Mercy Group collaborated with us to bring food to our community. Walmart, Brookshires and Piggly Wiggly of Camden also helped. We are thankful for everyone and we hope this can help our community.
“Blessed and thankful to be here and to be able to help in Camden,” Rev. Jones of New Mt Calvary Baptist church stated. “We are in a situation where folks need assistance and we are trying our best to do that.”
