Taking a food tour of your own stomping grounds may seem touristy, but when you’re led by a guide as knowledgeable and passionate as downtown West Palm Beach resident Kristl Story, even longtime locals are guaranteed to learn something new.
Story, owner of West Palm Beach Food Tours, has hosted over 10,000 guests since launching the tour company in 2015. With food tourism currently a top trend in travel, plus comfortably small group sizes (tours are capped at 12 people), business is growing—and supporting the pandemic-ravaged restaurant industry along the way.
Story’s latest offer, the Happy Hour Tour, joins her popular Downtown West Palm Beach Food Tour, which was named a “Top 10 Tour Experience in the United States” by TripAdvisor in 2019, and her Historic West Palm Beach Neighborhood Food Tour, which includes transportation in a luxury van to south-side hotspots like Grandview Public Market, Havana, Nomad at Sean Rush, and Rhythm Café.
The newly debuted Happy Hour Tour—which Story describes as “a cocktail party on the move”—includes three full-size cocktails, three appetizers, and a fully guided tour; along the way, guests will learn cocktail-crafting tips, hear stories of local speakeasies and scandals, and be treated to exclusive access and VIP perks like bartender demonstrations, chef meet-and-greets, and cocktail recipe cards to take home.
Stops on the Happy Hour Tour include Hullabaloo for an espresso martini with zucchini chips and roasted red bell pepper sauce; The Blind Monk for a Cappelletti spritz with Spanish pan con tomate; and Sassafras for a Young Lavender cocktail with hush puppies.
The two-hour Happy Hour Tour is offered on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost $65 and can be purchased online here. Guests should wear shoes and clothing in which they are comfortable walking about one mile.
