State Representative and House Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton teamed up with St. Joe’s Prep and other community groups this week to provide over 200 boxes of free food to fight hunger for her constituents and their neighbors.
The event highlights the critically important efforts of community leaders, religious organizations, and city agencies to fight the food insecurity that affects one in five children in Philadelphia – with a much higher level in such areas as Kingsessing in Southwest, according to Children’s Hospital.1
“Food insecurity remains a major issue – especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rep. McClinton, a mother, herself, as well as a legislative public servant. “This collaborative effort is the latest example of our commitment to bring nutritious meals to our neighbors. I can’t thank our community partners and student volunteers from Sayre Health Center enough for coming together to help feed our families.”
Other organizations in the Southwest are dedicated to distributing emergency food parcels regularly scheduled dates each month and often on an emergency basis. Some of these organizations are listed here, along with the phone contact numbers for information about times, dates, and pickup details.
