Canterbury Village and Woodside Bible Church are opening a food pantry to serve local families in need of food assistance.
The Village Food Pantry will officially open with a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, followed by food distribution to those in need, according to a press release.
The pantry is located on the south side of the Woodside Bible Church at Canterbury Village, 2500 Joslyn Ct., Lake Orion. The pantry features aisles with space for residents to walk through and select food items from displays.
Keith and Angie Aldridge, owners of Canterbury Village, along with Jon Dahlke, Community Outreach and Next Steps Director of Woodside Bible Church started working to establish the pantry in 2020, when many families were struggling financially due to the pandemic, according to the press release.
Those in need are encouraged to attend the Monday food distribution. Going forward, the pantry will host walk-in distributions, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
For those interested in making donations, food items can be dropped off 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, at Woodside Bible Church in Lake Orion. Recommended items include packaged foods such as cereal pasta, packaged rice/potatoes, macaroni and cheese and other boxed/non-perishable food. To make monetary donations or to volunteer, contact Jon Dahlke at Woodside Bible Church or visit www.woodsidebible.org.
Woodside Bible Church has 15 campuses across metro Detroit. The Lake Orion campus is located in the 85,000 sq. ft. space which was formerly the “Always Christmas” store at Canterbury Village.
