A surge in new COVID-19 cases has led to the cancellation of several community events, including the Wenatchee Wine and Food Festival that was scheduled for this Saturday at the Town Toyota Center.
Wenatchee World publisher Sean Flaherty said they are hoping to hold the festival later this year. The Wenatchee World partners with the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center and Town Toyota Center on the event.
It was cancelled last year because of the pandemic.
Leavenworth block party cancelled
The City of Leavenworth cancelled an all-city block party scheduled for this Thursday that was meant to serve as a community bright spot after a year-and-a-half of living under COVID-19 restrictions.
Mayor Carl Florea said even though the event was to be outdoors the city could not guarantee safe conditions with the big crowd that was expected to attend.
Honor flight cancelled after positive test
Over the weekend, an honor flight at Pangborn Memorial Airport planned for a 94-year-old World War II veteran was cancelled.
John Drake, a resident of Prestige Senior Living in East Wenatchee, served in the Navy after enlisting in 1944, 10 days after his 17th birthday.
He was deployed to the North and South Pacific where he has a vivid memory of an attack which resulted in more than a third of his crew losing their lives, Prestige said.
But after a positive COVID-19 test at Prestige Senior Living, the Saturday flight was called off.
