No Fork Empty Campaign: Thanksgiving food drive on the South Shore - SILive.com

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A South Shore Thanksgiving tradition is underway to help feed the borough’s families in need. The “Leave No Fork Empty” food drive asks for non-perishable items and/or monies for purchasing turkeys. The deadline is Monday, Nov. 22.

Food can be dropped at 242 Main Street (the Chelsea Financial Services’ Corporate Office), between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Topping the donation requests are cranberry sauce, gravy, stuffing mix, canned vegetables such as yams and carrots, boxed mashed potatoes, corn bread mix, canned fruit, canned pumpkin filling, boxed dessert mix and canned Carrots.

The effort is managed by Catholic Charities of Staten Island (CC-SI) and Chelsea Financial Services of Tottenville.

“We’re proud to partner with Chelsea Financial to help the Staten Island community,” said Vincent Ignizio, CEO of Catholic Charities of Staten Island. “I encourage everyone to consider helping our neighbors this Thanksgiving and ensuring that no fork is left empty.”

John Pisapia, President of Chelsea Financial said, “We are making a huge change this year. Now, you can donate directly to the cause…Donate $25 to provide one family one turkey, $50 for two families/two turkeys and so on.’

He encouraged, “And you can still bring your non-perishable trimmings to our office, or use amazon.com, walmart.com or other online retailers to ship food items to our office, and CC-SI will receive them to create holiday baskets just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.”

Also, if a generous Staten Islander wishes to donate an actual turkey (in lieu of a turkey donation), frozen turkeys may be dropped off at the Catholic Charities of Staten Island CYO Community Center (North Shore), 120 Anderson Ave., Princes Bay, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, up until the deadline of Nov. 22, 2021.
