WADSWORTH, Nev. (KOLO) - The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Food Distribution Center hosted a grand opening celebration on Sunday. Organizers welcomed guests who listened to speeches from local and national dignitaries along with food and refreshments during the celebration.
The facility houses several food programs; including the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Food Pantry, a CDC COVID Emergency Groceries program, USDA Commodities (Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations – FDPIR,) and an unencumbered food stream for those who may not qualify for any of the other programs.
“If we could just keep food in the bellies of our people, that gives them one step up, to move forward in their lives,” said Bonnie Akaka-Smith, Food Distribution Program Director.
There’s people here that struggle, some of them, you know, they just have a hard time and its nice for them, you know, they can get the help here,” said Terry Wright, grand opening attendee.
The food distribution center and its services is available to all within a 50 mile radius of the facility, located at 11 Brady Street, Wadsworth, NV, on the Pyramid Lake Tribal Reservation.
