Food Network and Cooking Channel have unveiled their new slate of original programming, including series featuring Kal Penn and iconic ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s.
The networks, both owned by Discovery Inc., announced more than 30 new shows and 25 returning series that will air across its linear networks and the discovery+ streaming service for a total of more than 400 hours of food-focused programming.
Money Hungry is hosted by Kal Penn, and is billed as a unique contest demanding the skills of a “super taster” and deep culinary knowledge as contestants compete in increasingly tough taste tests.
Ben & Jerry’s: The Cold Wars (working title) is an ice cream competition show in which teams of “future flavor gurus” create new frozen treats as they seek to impress the ice cream magnates and win a grand prize.
Also among the newly announced series is Chocolate Meltdown: Hershey’s After Dark hosted by Sunny Anderson. It’s set in the Hersheyland park late at night, and features confectioners braving the creepy, deserted amusement park to solve puzzles and mold chocolate amid a scary atmosphere.
The Globe sees host Robert Irvine and lead judge Daniela Soto-Innes holding competitions between chefs on an immersive set of LED screens that transport the competitors anywhere in the world.
A new show from Chrissy Teigen’s mom Pepper, Dishing with Pepper Teigen, has the host opening up her home to share Thai-inspired recipes and stories with a family touch.
Spice of Life (working title) features host Hawa Hassan visiting experienced and talented chefs to listen to stories about their favorite traditional dishes from across the globe.
The Preview Dinner Project (working title) lets viewers follow along as chefs build their pop-up dinner events for a chance to make their culinary dream a reality.
Food Network icon Guy Fieri, hot on the heels of his new three-year pact with the channel, will star in Guy: Hawaiian Style, dubbed “an off-the-hook Hawaiian adventure” that only Fieri could provide.
Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco also has a series lined up that will see the funnyman and food lover explore hot-button questions involving the world of food.
Also among the new Food Network and Cooking Channel content are the previously announced series No Recipe Road Trip (working title) starring The Try Guys of the popular web series; Battle of the Brothers with Bryan and Michael Voltaggio each leading teams of chefs running a culinary gauntlet; the competition series Grill of Victory, pitting America’s best backyard grillers against each other for a chance to win a custom outdoor kitchen; Pioneer Woman: Ranch Wedding, a series about Ree Drummond’s daughter Alex preparing for her wedding to her college sweetheart; and Tiny Food Fight with chef Darnell Ferguson and comedian Mamrie Hart hosting the world’s biggest tiny food competition.
