Where to find food, ice, water, vital supplies in greater Baton Rouge - The Advocate

In the wake of Hurricane Ida, many residents in and around Baton Rouge remain without access to food, electricity and other vital supplies.

Here's a list of resources available through Saturday in East Baton Rouge.

These sites offer meals and water.

  • BREC Burbank Park Soccer Fields, 12400 Burbank Drive (8 a.m. until supplies run out Friday and Saturday)
  • 1544 Harding Blvd. (3:30 p.m. until supplies run out Saturday)

These centers offer air conditioning, WiFi, charging stations and meals at designated times.

  • Leo S. Butler Community Center, 950 E. Washington St. (8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday)
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 4000 Gus Young Ave. (noon to 6 p.m., lunch at 1:30 p.m.; dinner at 5:30 p.m. Friday)
  • Jewel J Newman Community Center, 4000 Gus Young Ave., (1 to 3 p.m. Friday)
Curfews extended in greater Baton Rouge; charging stations, food giveaways continue

East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced Friday she's extending the parishwide curfew into Monday morning. 

These locations offer free ice.

  • 9000 Airline Highway, noon to 2 p.m. Saturday

In St. James Parish, crews are canvassing Saturday to hand out tarps for those in need. Officials are also operating PODS through 5 p.m. at St. James High School and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. The Church of Latter-Day Saints has established a crisis cleanup line where residents can place a work order: (844) 965-1386.

In Ascension Parish, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and local government officials will provide meals and water in Donaldsonville on Monday. The food bank will also deliver 1,500 cases of water and as many boxes of non-perishable food to the Frank Sotile Jr. Pavilion on Thibaut Drive. Volunteers will start handing it out at 11 a.m. Monday on a first come, first serve basis. 

In Assumption Parish, a POD site will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Bayou L'Ourse Recreation Center, 1213 La. 662, Morgan City.
